Freelance Travel Writer

TERN is a new online travel magazine produced by Hostelling
International – Canada that is more about why we travel than where we
travel. We’re looking for new story pitches from travel writers — from
features to shorter snapshots of life on the road aimed at budget
travellers aged 18-30. Check it out at http://tern.travel.

You can view our contributor guidelines at
http://tern.travel/contribute/. Right now, we’re especially looking
for longer feature pitches, about lessons learned on the road or think
pieces about what travel means, as well as shorter stories like ‘That
Moment,’ which are descriptive snapshots that look at a particular
moment in your travels when the travel bug really bit you hard (must
include a photo). At this point, we’re not so much looking for travel
tips or lists or itinerary-style travel advice — we love the stuff
that gets at the nitty gritty of learning something about yourself and
the world in far away places.

Pay is competitive and varies, depending on the length/demands of the
piece. Please send a detailed pitch that explains what your story is
all about and what readers will gain from it, as well as a bit of
information about you and your previous work. At this point we can’t
respond to general writer introductions, although we’re sure you’re
very nice.

Please submit your pitch using the form on the website, or to
editor@tern.travel.

Happy travels!
